"Water Management and Environmental Engineering"
(BA) (full-time education)

  • Qualification: Bachelor of Construction and Civil Engineering
  • Program duration: 4 years
  • Credits: 240 ECTS credits
  • Level of qualification: First (bachelor) level of higher education, which corresponds to the sixth qualification level of National Qualifications Framework, the First cycle of the framework of qualifications for the European Higher Education Area “QF for the EHEA”, and 6 level of the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning – “EQF for LLL”).
  • Branch of knowledge: 19 Architecture and Construction
  • Speciality: 192 Construction and civil engineering
  • Entry requirements: secondary school leaving certificate .
  • Special entry requirements: related speciality (for short term training – 2 years), unrelated specialty (normative term of studies – 3 years)
  • Specific algorithm for prior learning recognition: provided that the previous level obtained in another country requires nostrification. Any informal or non-registered education recognition is null and void.
  • Requirements and rules for qualification, requirements for the curriculum implementation: 240 credits curriculum completed. Successfully passed state exam (and successful defense of the bachelor’s thesis according to the curriculum).

The overall profile of the curriculum:

during the first year in the cycle of general training, students learn the disciplines of social and humanitarian, natural and mathematical basic training. The next courses include disciplines cycle of professional training in accordance with speciality and specializations.

Course objectives:

In accordance with general and general-professional competencies:

  • to use main theories, methods and principles of mathematical and natural sciences in the sphere of professional activity.
  • to demonstrate knowledge of stateforming and economical sciences.
  • to demonstrate knowledge of oral and written communication state and foreign languages, using the skills of interpersonal interaction, working in an international context with specialists and non-specialists in the industry, using modern means of communication.

  • mastering of the working skills of effective work independently (term thesis and qualifying paper) or group (laboratory work, including leadership skills in their implementation), the ability to get the desired result in a limited time with a focus on professional integrity and exclusion of plagiarism.
  • to demonstrate language skills of at least of one foreign language, including special professional terminology.
  • to demonstrate the ability to work with geodetic instruments and use topographic materials for the design and creation of construction objects and engineering networks.
  • to use and elaborate technical documentation, including the use of modern information technology.
  • to demonstrate the ability of effective usageof modern building materials, products and designs based on the basis of knowledge of their technical characteristics and manufacturing technology.
  • to create or use space-planning decisions for future design, including the use of information technology.
  • to evaluate the impact of climatic, engineering-geological and environmental features of the construction area in the design and construction of projects.
  • to identify and assess the load and stressed-deformed state of soil foundations and bearing constructions of buildings (structures), including the use of modern information technologies.
  • to elaborate engineering structural concepts of the construction on the basis of knowledge and the construction forms list, the ability to calculate and design structures and structural connections.
  • to elaborate and evaluate the technical concepts of engineering networks.
  • to adhere to the modern requirements of normative documents in construction.
  • to carry out and analyze the economic calculations of the cost of construction projects.
  • to design technological processes of erection and exterior finishing works of buildings (structures) and installation of engineering systems and networks.
  • to organize and manage the construction process in the erection of construction objects and their maintenance and reconstruction following the requirements of safety.
  • to demonstrate an understanding of design principles of urban areas and infrastructure objects and town planning.
  • to ensure reliable and safe operation of construction of buildings, structures and engineering networks.

Specialized and professional competences:

  • to use the results of geodetic, geological and hydrological surveys, the typical concpets for designing of water management and environmental structures.
  • to demonstrate the ability to apply principles and methods of solving hydraulic and hydrological problems, filtration performance calculations, determination of loads and impacts on water management and integrated environmental design structures.
  • to demonstrate the ability to use principles and brand new methods of calculation and design of elements of water management and environmental protection objects.
  • to use modern technology works in the design of organizational and technological concepts in construction and reconstruction of water management and integrated environmental design structures, taking into account technical and economic indexes.
  • to demonstrate knowledge of production and use of building materials, products and structures, the ability to assess the indexes of their quality in accordance with current standards.
  • to demonstrate the ability to manage the construction of water management and integrated environmental design structures, provide with occupational safety requirements, life safety and environmental protection.
  • to be able to carry out technical inspection of water supply and environmental protection objects, to work out measures in the improvement of their reliability.
  • to demonstrate the ability to develop and implement engineering measures connected with the current operation of water management and integrated environmental design structures.
  • Form of training: full time.
  • Compulsory or selective mobility windows: continuing studies in Poland and other countries in accordance with the university agreements.
  • Practice / probation: according to curriculum students pass 5 practical trainings in (engineering geodesy, construction material science, geology and hydrogeology , soil science and hydrology and hydromelioration) and 3 work experience internships (engineering-meliorative, hydrotechnical, prediploma).

  • other technical experts in the field of physics sciences and engineering (instructor in operational, technical and organizational issues, techniques in work standardizing, machinery for preparation of production, techniques for the preparation of technical documentation, planning techniques)
  • inspectors of construction and fire-fighting system (inspector of control over technical maintenance of buildings)
  • engineer in the sphere of civil engineering ( hydraulic-engineer, engineer-supervisor of construction, cost engineer, civil engineer, engineer-designer (civil engineering), product engineer (construction materials)
  • manager of architecture and construction а, technical control, analysis and advertisement
  • managers in housing and public services
  • chiefs (other governors), building site headman (branches) in construction (contractor,headman of construction and fitter’s works)
  • also technician-hydrometrist, inspector of water resources utilization, inspector –designer in design, construction, maintenance, government, research organizations and establishments, swimming pool and regional boards of water resources, channels boards, organizations of water management objects construction, educational establishments of water management major.

Access to further studies:

bachelor of educational program «Construction and civil engineering, area of concentration (educational program) «Water Management and Environmental Engineering» may continue at the University of master study and later in postgraduate school.
